Boating Safety Series

Boat Safety Series

The Boating Safety Series is designed to provide a hands-on boating education to the public. The goal is prevention of boating and water related accidents.

The first course in this comprehensive program is designed to educate young children that need some basic water safety instruction before they participate in activities around the water. It is followed up by a Boating Safety Course that will provide the participants with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) Boaters Education Certification.

The TPWD Boaters Education Certification is required for anyone born on or after September 1, 1993 who operates any vessel over 15 horsepower, wind-blown vessel over 14 feet and all personal watercraft. There are also course offerings in CPR, First Aid and Advanced Boating Safety for professional mariners.

If you have any questions about the Boating Safety Series, please contact Captain RJ Shelly at the Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Office in Calhoun County at (361) 552-9747 or by email at rj.shelly@tamu.edu.
